Alan Dunn “For how much longer do we tolerate mass murder?” |

This series explores a potentially horrific image located in domestic contexts. The image in question is from the mass genocide in East Timor in the mid-1970s, showing child victims of famine. The image was used in 1980 on the reverse of the LP ‘For how much longer do we tolerate mass murder?’ by British post-punk group The Pop Group. This LP is located within the artist’s home and is photographed each time the family pet goes near the record turntable, setting up a tension between cosy Western domesticity and images we prefer to forget, or rather, to not encounter in the first place, reminders of our own potential greed and cruelty. |
